A group of early 20th-century English
artists, led by Roger Fry, who brought them
together to design and make interiors,
furnishings, and craft objects. The workshop,
started in 1913, included members of the
Bloomsbury Group, such as Vanessa Bell,
Duncan Grant, Wyndham Lewis, and Henri
Gaudier-Brzeska. The articles they made were
often primitive - both in design and
execution - and brightly coloured. Some
members of the workshop moved to Charleston,
a house in the South Downs which they
decorated and fitted out with their
creations, but the workshop itself lasted
only until 1920.
