  1. A group of early 20th-century English
  2. artists, led by Roger Fry, who brought them
  3. together to design and make interiors,
  4. furnishings, and craft objects. The workshop,
  5. started in 1913, included members of the
  6. Bloomsbury Group, such as Vanessa Bell,
  7. Duncan Grant, Wyndham Lewis, and Henri
  8. Gaudier-Brzeska. The articles they made were
  9. often primitive - both in design and
  10. execution - and brightly coloured. Some
  11. members of the workshop moved to Charleston,
  12. a house in the South Downs which they
  13. decorated and fitted out with their
  14. creations, but the workshop itself lasted
  15. only until 1920.
